Empty Hands Are Still Open Hands

When my body says stop and my Father says come, learning to rest in the worth He sees rather than the work I deliver

πŸ•―οΈ ✍️ πŸ“– πŸ•ŠοΈ
Empty Hands Are Still Open Hands
πŸ“–"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
β€” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)

πŸ•―οΈ It's past midnight, and the house has gone quiet in that way that makes every thought a little louder. After weeks of long hours, my body has finally done what my heart kept refusing to do. It's simply said, "Hokaai, stop die lorrie!" β€” en nog is dit nie die einde nie. There's still so much to do. I'm overwhelmed, and underneath the tiredness sits a smaller, older fear: that I'm going to miss something, that I'll let someone down, that I'll disappoint.

✍️ I feel like a clay jar that's been poured out again and again until the edges have begun to crack. I keep trying to hold it all together with my own two hands, pressing the pieces back into place so no one notices the hairline fractures. Tonight I don't have the strength to hold them anymore.

πŸͺ¨ Earlier last night a message came, and the words stopped me more gently than my body did. He didn't say people value my work, or my app, or my output. He said they value my worth. That's the thing I am, not the thing I produce.

πŸ•―οΈ What am I worth if I don't deliver?πŸ€” I've been wired to deliver ever since the little girl in me learned to buy time, affirmation and love with acts of service. If you need to be heard, seen and valued, you produce. You give until it hurts, so people will show up. Experience has taught me that love is conditional.

πŸ•ŠοΈ The fear whispers that love is a transaction: deliver, and you're wanted; fail, and you're left standing alone. That's the lie of the orphan heart, and I know it well because I live it. I've walked so many others home from it, and still I find myself on that same road some nights, one weary step at a time. Perhaps that's part of the grace too. I don't walk anyone home from a place I've never been.

🌱 So who shows up when I don't deliver?πŸ€” The Father does, first and always. He isn't waiting at the finish line to assess my performance; He's the One who meets me in the empty-handed place and calls it holy ground. Like the golden seams of kintsugi, He doesn't hide the cracks β€” He fills them with something more precious than the clay ever was. Some of His truest love will come through people too: the ones who've seen me, not just what I give. Tonight's messages suggest there are more of them than the fear wants me to believe.

✍️ Later he said to let it slide till after the convention: "Get yourself to bed and relax. You've done good!" Yet even after all that, here I am, way past midnight, fighting tears and struggling to sleep.

πŸ•―οΈ I know 🧠 I'm allowed to have nothing to give sometimes, but deep down the little girl still struggles to receive what she's learnt to lavishly give. Even so, empty hands are still open hands, and open hands are exactly what He fills. So tonight I'll lay the lists down, loosen my grip, and let this weariness be lifted like a feather on the gentle breath of Holy Spirit. The work will still be there in the morning. So will He.

πŸͺ¨ Perhaps the quietest truth underneath it all is this: "You've done good" gave me permission to stop working. "They value your worth" is inviting me to discover that I never had to work for my place in their hearts, or His.

πŸ“– "For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father.'" β€” Romans 8:15 (NKJV)

My story for His glory, changing the world🌏 one πŸ’”heartπŸ’– at a time. β€” Patrizia

If you're reading this with empty hands and a weary heart, please hear this: you haven't failed Him. You're not standing alone at the finish line waiting to be assessed. He's already here, kneeling beside you in the quiet, gathering the broken pieces with tender hands and filling every seam with gold. Rest now, dear one. You are loved for who you are, and that will still be true when the sun rises.

πŸ’‘ Reflection
  • Where has your body been whispering "stop" while your heart kept pushing on?πŸ€”
  • Whose disappointment are you most afraid of if you don't deliver?πŸ€”
  • When did you first learn that love had to be earned, and what does the Father say to that place in you now?πŸ€”
  • Who are the people who've seen you, not just what you give?πŸ€”
  • What would it look like to bring Him your empty hands tonight, without apology?πŸ€”
🎺 Affirmation

I am a beloved child of God, not an orphan working for my place at the table. My worth was settled at the Cross, not earned at my desk. My cracks aren't my disqualification; they're where His golden grace flows in. Empty-handed, I am still wanted, still held, still home.

πŸ™Œ Closing prayer

Abba Father, I come to You tonight with nothing in my hands. I'm tired, Lord, and I'm afraid of falling short and letting people down. Thank You that You've never loved me for what I produce. Where the orphan lie has whispered that I'm only as wanted as my last offering, speak Your truth over me again: I'm Yours. Holy Spirit, fill the cracks I've been trying so hard to hide, and let Your strength be made perfect in this weakness. Help me to rest without guilt, to receive love without earning it, and to trust You with everything I can't finish tonight. Thank You for the people You've placed around me who see my heart. Let me lean into their love as a gift from Your hand. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
