To Our Strong Foundation

A Father's Day blessing for the man who holds us steady

πŸ•―οΈ ✍️ πŸ“– πŸ•ŠοΈ
To Our Strong Foundation
πŸ“–"Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it."
β€” Psalm 127:1 (NKJV)

πŸ•―οΈ Today, my heart is full β€” overflowing, really β€” with gratitude for the man who has become our steady stone.

Clive. My Shatzi.

The one who bears the weight with quiet strength, who loves with a constancy that doesn't require fanfare or grand gestures, but shows up in a thousand ordinary moments.

There's a quiet kind of strength in him that doesn't announce itself. He doesn't need to. It's in the way he listens β€” truly listens β€” when the day has worn me thin. It's in his hands, capable and willing, that serve our home in the most unglamorous, beautiful ways. He doesn't hesitate to pick up the vacuum cleaner, to wash the floors, to kneel down and scrub a bathroom. This is how he builds our home β€” not with fanfare, but with the integrity of a heart committed to loving us practically.

I'm thinking about what it means to be built upon something solid. In our world of shifting sands and uncertain seasons, he's the foundation that lets us reach upward. Not because he's perfect β€” he'd be the first to tell you he isn't β€” but because his integrity is unmovable. His love is lived, not merely spoken.

✍️ This morning, I was thinking about what it means to be someone's foundation. We use that word so lightly sometimes, don't we? There's something deeply countercultural about a man who isn't too proud for domestic work. Who sees the vacuum waiting and picks it up. Who notices the bathroom needs cleaning and does it without being asked. This isn't weakness; it's the strongest kind of love β€” the kind that doesn't perform, doesn't expect applause, just shows up and serves.

Watching Clive move through our home this way β€” present, willing, humble β€” I realised that being a foundation isn't about being perfect. It's about being present. It's about showing up, day after ordinary day, and building something that lasts through the small, sacred acts of service.

He shows our sons what faithfulness looks like when it's embodied in a man. It's not in a sermon; it's in the way he kneels to scrub the bathroom without being asked. It's in his willingness to serve without needing recognition. Service. Humility.
Love as action. These are the lessons our boys are learning not because we've told them, but because they've watched their father live them.

πŸ“– He does this faithfully. With the kind of love that Christ modelled: a love that serves, that sacrifices, that doesn't count the cost of the work, that creates safe spaces for broken things to be restored.

πŸ•ŠοΈ This morning, I felt the Holy Spirit whisper something tender: Your husband is showing your sons what it looks like to walk with Jesus in the ordinary moments. Not in the grand gestures, though Clive is generous with those. The extraordinary love lives in the everyday β€” in the willingness to do what needs doing, no matter how humble the task. In the steady faithfulness. The way he prays with us. The way he laughs at my dreams even when they're wild and uncertain. The way he believes in what we're becoming β€” in what I'm becoming β€” even when I don't believe in myself.

πŸͺ¨ Here's the deeper truth I'm sitting with: every strong woman I know has been built by a man β€” a father, a husband, a spiritual mentor β€” who believed she was worth building for. Clive is that man for me. He's the safe place where my broken pieces have been gathered up and mended with gold. He's the one who says, "I see you. I believe in you. Let's build this together" β€” and then he lives it. In the vacuum cleaner. In the clean bathroom. In the floors he washes so our home is a place of peace. He's the one who serves without needing recognition, who loves without keeping score.

Being a foundation means showing up consistently in the small ways. It means choosing to love practically, daily, unglamorously. It means understanding that true strength isn't about dominance or control; it's about service. It's about partnership that doesn't divide life into "his work" and "hers" but honours all the work it takes to build a beautiful home.

🌱 There's hope in this, isn't there?πŸ€”

The kind that comes from knowing that what we build in love β€” in faith, in consistency, in grace β€” becomes a legacy. Our boys will carry this forward. They'll know how to love their own families because they've seen it modelled. They'll understand that true strength isn't about grandiose achievements; it's about sacrifice. It's about being willing to do the humble work. It's about partnership that serves. They're learning what it looks like when a man walks with Jesus not just on Sundays, but on Tuesday mornings with a mop in his hand.

In a world that often measures a man's worth by what he achieves or accumulates, Clive has chosen differently. He's chosen to measure his life by the strength of the bonds he builds, the trust he keeps, the safety he creates for us to be fully ourselves β€” broken, healing, becoming.

I'm reminded of how the best blessings are often the quiet ones β€” the ones lived out in the dailiness of showing up, of choosing love when it's easier not to, of building something that lasts because it's built on truth. Today, I celebrate the man who's taught me so much about what that looks like.

My story for His glory, changing the world 🌏 one πŸ’”heartπŸ’– at a time. β€” Patrizia

To Clive β€” my husband, my partner, my best friend, the father of our sons β€” thank you for being our strong foundation. Thank you for showing us Christ's love in the everyday. Thank you for believing in us, for standing with us, for the willingness to serve without fanfare. Thank you for the clean floors, the vacuumed rooms, the scrubbed bathrooms β€” all the small acts that say, I love you enough to do this. Thank you for building this beautiful life with intention and grace. Your love is seen, Clive. Your faithfulness is felt. Your steadiness holds us all.

πŸ’‘ Reflection
  • What does it mean to you that strength, according to Scripture and according to Christ's example, looks like service and sacrifice rather than dominance?
  • Who is someone in your life whose quiet, steady presence has been a foundation for you? What have you learned from watching them live out their values in the everyday, unglamorous moments?
  • Where in your own life are you called to be the steady stone for someone else β€” through presence, service, and faithful love? What might that require of you?
  • How does it change things when we recognise that the strongest love is often the one that doesn't announce itself, but simply shows up and serves?
  • What small, sacred acts of service are building the foundation of your own home and relationships right now?
🎺 Affirmation

You are held by steady hands. You are loved by someone who sees your whole story β€” your strength and your struggle β€” and chooses you anyway. The foundation beneath your feet is secure, not because it's perfect, but because it's built on faith, integrity, and a love that chooses, again and again, to show up. You are worthy of this kind of faithfulness. You are worthy of being truly seen. And if you are the one doing the building, know this: your humble service, your willingness to do what needs doing, your presence β€” these are building something that will last. You are creating a legacy of love.

πŸ™Œ Closing prayer

Lord, I come before You with a heart so full of gratitude. Thank You for Clive β€” for the man he is and the man he's becoming. Thank You for showing me what it means to be loved faithfully, to be chosen daily, to have someone stand beside me through the seasons of my life. Strengthen his heart, Father. Sustain him in the quiet ways that he pours himself out for us β€” in the work that no one sees, in the service that expects no applause, in the steadiness that holds us all together. Help him know how deeply he is loved and appreciated, not just by us, but by You. Guard his heart, guide his steps, and help him always remember that his true foundation is You. Help our boys learn from his example what it means to love well, to serve faithfully, to lead with humility, and to build a life on the unshakeable foundation of Your love. And Lord, help me to see him as You see him. Help me to reflect back to him the same grace and steadiness he shows to me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
